"The company of wolves is better than that of man.”

Once upon a frenzied time, Woman (Lucie Debay) meets Man (Arieh Worthalter). Woman dances with Man. Man kisses Woman. Man grips Woman. Woman escapes Man. Man chases Woman... Nothing new! Or is there? The over-recycled “revenge” story takes an unexpected turn in HUNTED. The Big Bad psycho-Wolf, embodiment of patriarchy, and his dummy sidekick engage in a wild hunt, but within mother nature’s protective maze of trees, the Red Riding warrior-Hood’s got killer moves, and won’t surrender so easily.

HUNTED is a hybrid piece of art, just as much a survival film, with touches of snuff, as it could be a societal drama incarnated into a horror flick. The codes are bent and reborn. From a very primitive folk tale of lights and shadow, ritualistically told over a campfire, to the ever so pathetic current circus of heteronormativity, this demented and chaotic story depicts society at war, male and female peeling off their gender-stereotyped masks, turning, with one loud primal scream, into pure savages for the ages. Vincent Paronnaud (co-director of PERSEPOLIS, Cannes Jury Prize and Academy Award nominee), aka Winshluss, for the comic-book fans (MONSIEUR FERRAILLE - 2001, PINOCCHIO - 2008), is no stranger to satire, twisted fairy tales, and ambiguous characters. Parronnaud is a straight shooter, there’s no room for “good versus evil” hypocrisy. With his first solo feature he delivers a humanist tale drenched in symbolism, as animalistic as it is mystifying. – Celia Pouzet
