Every one of us has someone for whom they would do anything, move Heaven and Earth, to see again. For Audrey and Henry Walsh (Canadian genre-film royalty Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings) it's their two-year-old grandson Jackson, who was taken from them in a car accident that also took their beloved daughter. The tenets of their religion tell them that their daughter has moved on, but that that, due to his youth, it's possible to revive Jackson, providing a suitable host can be found. And the Walshes are in an excellent position to find one: Henry is an obstetrician, and his day job brings Becker (Konstantina Mantelos) their way, an soon-to-be single mother who is unsure of her very unexpected pregnancy. With the perfect candidate in place, the stars aligned and their house sound and escape-proofed, the Walshes’ plans to bring Jackson back are all set. What could go wrong? It turns out their lord and master has more than a few surprises in store for this pair of Canadian Satanists.

A delightful surprise, ANYTHING FOR JACKSON is a clever, often funny and delightfully mean-spirited tale of elderly Satanists in way over their heads in the name of love. Keith Cooper's screenplay constantly surprises, by turns funny, nasty and progressively more intense as it goes, and director Justin G. Dyck (who, like Cooper, is the veteran of numerous Harlequin Christmas TV movies!) delights in the darkly comedic aspects. But it's the pairing of McCarthy and Richings, both terrific, and the well-cast supporting roles that makes JACKSON special. It could have all just been a funny goof, and that would have worked fine, but McCarthy, Richings, and Mantelos give JACKSON considerable heft. – Matthew Kiernan
