A notorious criminal, a detective and a talking parrot collide after a botched robbery! Three months later, the mastermind Wong is on the run, the prime suspect for murdering one of his own teammates. In his attempt to clear his name, he finds himself in a complex web involving corrupt cops, survivors of the robbery, the missing loot, betrayals, and collateral damage. Close on his tail is the animal-loving detective Lam. With his boss constantly on his back, Lam must piece together this puzzle with a talking parrot as his only witness!
A riveting new cat-and-mouse thriller from director Andrew Fung, who previously collaborated as a screenwriter with Hong Kong veterans Johnnie To, on SPARROW(Fantasia 2008), and Stephen Chow, on SHAOLIN SOCCER and THE MERMAID, dives with fresh vigour into the crime-thriller genre for the first time! Though mostly a serious thriller, the film is laced with mystery, exciting action, and finely balanced with some quirky comic moments that recall classic HK films including John Woo’s THE KILLER. Louis Koo is in top form as the mysterious antihero, joined by familiar faces like Philip Keung (SHEEP WITHOUT A SHEPHERD, Fantasia 2020) and Andy On (ONCE UPON A TIME IN SHANGHAI), and fresh talent including Louis Cheung as the flawed detective, Jessica Hester (FLIRTING SCHOLAR) as a visually impaired landlady who brings out the humanity in Koo’s character, and of course the non-CGI parrot, which give the best performance by its species since the Shaw Bros. classic BLOODY PARROT. – King-Wei Chu
